Frequently
— Asked Questions.
Getting started
-
We’ll ask a little about what has prompted the assessment and what you hope to understand. This helps us determine the most appropriate type of assessment and whether MindMeasure is the right service for you or your child.
-
No. You can contact MindMeasure directly to arrange an assessment. Referrals from GPs, paediatricians, psychiatrists, schools and other professionals are also welcome.
-
Before testing begins, we will gather relevant background information and clarify the questions the assessment is intended to answer. Depending on the assessment, you may also be asked to complete questionnaires or provide previous reports, school information or other relevant records.
-
Yes. If you are unsure which assessment is appropriate, please get in touch. We can discuss what you are hoping to understand and advise you about the most suitable next step.
Assessments & Suitability
-
MindMeasure provides cognitive, educational and ADHD assessments for children, adolescents and adults. Assessments may explore intellectual and cognitive functioning, learning difficulties, academic achievement, attention and executive functioning, giftedness, or a combination of these areas.
-
Where appropriate, yes. Psychological assessment can contribute to or establish diagnoses that fall within a psychologist’s professional scope, including ADHD and Specific Learning Disorders. Whether a diagnosis can be made depends on the referral question, assessment findings and available clinical information.
-
This varies according to the assessment. Testing may take several hours and can sometimes be divided across more than one appointment. We will explain what is involved before your assessment is booked.
-
Some interviews, questionnaires and feedback appointments can be conducted by telehealth. However, many standardised cognitive and educational tests are best completed face-to-face. We will advise what is appropriate for the particular assessment.
Fees & Practicalities
-
Fees depend on the type and complexity of the assessment required. We will explain the proposed assessment and its cost before you decide whether to proceed. There are no unexpected additions to the agreed assessment fee.
-
Rebates depend on the type of assessment, the reason for referral and your individual circumstances. We can provide appropriate invoices and receipts, but we recommend checking eligibility with Medicare or your private health insurer before proceeding if a rebate is important to you.
-
Assessment appointments involve substantial blocks of reserved clinical time. We therefore ask for as much notice as possible if you need to change an appointment. Our cancellation terms will be provided when your assessment is booked.
-
Your personal and assessment information is handled confidentially and in accordance with professional and legal requirements. Reports or information are only shared with other people or organisations with your consent, except where disclosure is required by law.
